DHS Extends Temporary flexibility for Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification again – now 1/31/21

In March, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced new temporary flexibility in consenting to requirements related to Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, because of COVID-19.

This temporary policy was initially planned to last for 60 days. However, due to ongoing pandemic conditions, USCIS extended the policy a few times, most recently until 31st December 2020. Because of ongoing precautions related to COVID-19, on December 23, 2020, DHS again extended this policy an extra 30 days until 31st January 2021.

This provision only applies to employers and working environments that are working distantly.
