Commonly referred to as the <strong>&#8220;dropbox&#8221;<\/strong> process, the rule growing eligibility is planned to remain in effect through the end of <strong>2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>DOS Waiving | New Eligibility Criteria for DropBox Option<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Under this temporary rule, a <strong>consular official<\/strong> can waive the in-person interview requirement if the foreign national is applying for an <strong>H-1, H-3, H-4, L, O, P, or Q visa <\/strong>and meets all of the following conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Is applying for a <strong>visa <\/strong>in the candidate&#8217;s nation of nationality or residence<\/li><li>Has ever previously been given any type of visa<\/li><li>It has never been refused a visa unless such <strong>refusal<\/strong> was overcome or waived<\/li><li>Has no apparent <strong>ineligibility <\/strong>or potential ineligibility<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, a <strong>first-time visa<\/strong> candidate can qualify for the interview waiver if all the following conditions are met:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Is applying for a visa in the <strong>candidate&#8217;s nation<\/strong> of nationality or residence<\/li><li>Is a citizen or national of a country that participates in the <strong>visa waiver program<\/strong> (VWP)<\/li><li>Has never been refused a visa except if such refusal was overcome or waived<\/li><li>Has recently traveled to the <strong>United States<\/strong> using an authorization got via the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (<strong>ESTA)<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A similar rule, previously implemented for <strong>F, M,<\/strong> and <strong>academic J visa<\/strong> candidates, now has been extended through the end of <strong>2022<\/strong>. Also, an individual might still qualify for the dropbox option.
