Findings of the DHS OIG<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The OIG review <\/strong>observed that the USCIS has not adequately managed the U visa program and has not taken steps to address recommendations<\/strong> from previous program reviews. Moreover, the OIG pointed to a number of specific areas of concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As indicated in the report, a victim petitioning in 2021 likely would wait ten years or longer to get a U visa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recommendations of the DHS OIG<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Based on the above finding, the OIG recommended<\/strong> that the USCIS implement additional controls to mitigate fraud risks.<\/strong> For example, requiring certifying officials to submit signed forms directly to the USCIS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The OIG recommended that the USCIS improve data systems to guarantee accurate reporting of U visas granted <\/strong>and to develop a plan.
