Toward the start of every federal fiscal year<\/strong> (October), the Department of State conducts a lottery called the Diversity Immigration Visa Program<\/strong> (DV-2024). If an individual is chosen, they are eligible to apply for permanent residence (i.e., a green card<\/strong>). Anybody can register as long as they are a native of an eligible country (oversubscribed nations are not eligible, so the list of nations is likely to change every year), and have at least a high school diploma (or equivalent) or at least two years of work experience.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The congressionally mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program is administered every year by the U.S. Department of State<\/strong> and is conducted under the terms of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). This lottery gives a limit of up to 55,000 Diversity Visas (DV) <\/strong>each fiscal year. To be made available to people from nations with low rates of immigration to the United States. Those granted a DV visa<\/strong> become permanent residents of the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(DV-2024) Diversity Immigrant Visa Program<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The yearly DV program<\/strong> makes diversity immigrant visas <\/strong>available to people meeting the basic, but strict, eligibility requirements. A computer-generated random lottery drawing chooses selectees for DVs. The visas, however, are distributed among six geographic regions. With a more number of visas going to regions with lower rates of immigration. And without any visas going to nationals of nations sending more than 50,000 immigrants<\/strong> to the U.S. over the past five years. Within every region, no one nation might get more than seven percent of the available diversity visas <\/strong>in any one year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To be eligible for the DV 2024 Program<\/strong>, an individual should generally:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Be a native of a qualifying “low admission country” by one of the following. Born in a qualifying country<\/strong>, married to someone born in a qualifying country, or born to someone who was born in a qualifying country;<\/li>
  • Have at least a high school <\/strong>education or it’s same(i.e., 12-year course of formal elementary and secondary education; GEDs are not considered an equivalent for purposes of DV-2024<\/strong>)<\/li>
