The two-year limitation applies to nations that have been named as having an overstay rate of more than 10%<\/strong> or are on the State Sponsors of Terrorism List, including much of the African continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Nobody needs to go to their dream college and live in fear that they could be kicked out at any second,” Vista said. Her home country of the Philippines <\/strong>would be influenced by the proposed rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DHS decided to take this course of action because of the potential threat <\/strong>to national security and the possibility of fraud, according to Yale-Loehr. But he sees it as emblematic <\/strong>of broader trends surrounding immigration and international students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Cornell, international students are a huge portion of the student body. Comprising 11 percent<\/strong> of undergraduates, 51 percent<\/strong> of graduates, and 34 percent<\/strong> of skilled students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the DHS Proposal declaration, Cornell wrote to international students that this modification would be a “critical one for worldwide students<\/strong> and scholars.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the University <\/strong>has offered no further comments, their email <\/strong>said they would continue to advocate on behalf of worldwide students.
