To expand the validity of their <strong>Form I-551<\/strong>, Permanent Resident Card (PRC or &#8220;<strong>Green Card<\/strong>&#8220;), with a revised <strong>Form I-797<\/strong>, Notice of Action. LPRs file <strong>Form I-90<\/strong>, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, when their Green Cards terminate or are going to lapse. The updated Form I-797 notice will serve as a<strong> receipt notice<\/strong> for Form I-90.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of January 2021, USCIS will stop issuing <strong>green card<\/strong> extension stickers to <strong>lawful permanent residents<\/strong> when they file Form I-90. Instead, the agency will issue these applicants a revised Form I-797, Notice of Action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When given together the <strong>Green Card<\/strong>, the updated Form I-797 notice will extend the Green Card&#8217;s validity for a year. From the date on the front of the Green Card and will serve as <strong>temporary proof <\/strong>of the lawful permanent residents (LPR\u2019s) status. This change guarantees that <strong>LPRs <\/strong>with a recently terminated Green Card. It will have documentation of <strong>identity<\/strong>, employment authorization, and authorization to return to the <strong>United States <\/strong>following temporary foreign travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>USCIS to Replace Sticker\u202fto Extend Validity of Green Cards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Form I-90<\/strong> candidates who have not been given a notice for a biometrics appointment and are in possession of their <strong>Green Card<\/strong>. Will no longer have to visit an application support center to acquire temporary proof of LPR status. Candidates who have already been planned for a <strong>biometrics appointment<\/strong> will not receive a revised notice. Will receive the revised <strong>receipt notice<\/strong> in the mail roughly 7-10 days after <strong>USCIS <\/strong>accepts their application. This notice will be printed on secure paper.
