US opens up more appointment slots for some visa applicants

The opening of new appointment slots for B1/B2 visa applicants who are eligible for interview waivers has been declared by the United States.

In a tweet on Monday, the U.S. Embassy in India stated, “We have opened several B1/B2 interview waiver appointments for the coming month in Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.”

In Delhi, the average wait time for a B1/B2 interview waiver appointment is 233 days. While the average wait time is 297 days in Mumbai and 171 days in Chennai.

If an applicant is renewing a visa within 48 months of its expiration. Including B1/B2 visas, they can select the interview waiver program.

The wait time for first-time applicants for the US business (B-1) and tourist (B-2) visas. It has exceeded three years for those who are not eligible for interview waivers.

“The global median wait time for a tourist visa (B1/B2) interview appointment is under two months as of this month”, the US State Department stated on Tuesday.

The United States has made more candidates eligible for interview waivers. Sent dropbox cases abroad for evaluation and hired temporary staff in response to the growing backlog.

The processing times are expected to return to pre-pandemic levels in the fiscal year 2023, which is faster than anticipated.
